Study Syria is operated by Ahmed Jasem trading as Study Syria ("we", "us", "our").
For the purposes of UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, we are the data controller of your personal data.

Account Information
When you create an account we collect:
- Email address
- Encrypted password credentials
Passwords are never stored in plain text.
Learning Activity
To provide the platform and save your progress we collect:
- Courses and lessons completed
- Quiz results
- Learning pathways
- Notes and bookmarks you create
- Certificates earned
- Progress tracking information
Scholarship and Funding Matching
Where you use our scholarship matching tools, we may collect:
- Subject area
- Level of study
- Intended country of study
- Intended universities
- Whether you are based in Syria or part of the Syrian diaspora
This information is used solely to provide relevant scholarship and education guidance.
Technical Information
We may collect limited technical information necessary to operate and secure the platform, including:
- Device type
- Browser information
- IP address
- Security and audit logs
Information We Do Not Intentionally Collect
We do not intentionally collect:
- Payment card details
- Home addresses
- Telephone numbers
- Government identification numbers
Payments are processed by Stripe and are not stored by us.
3. Legal Basis for Processing
We process personal data under the following legal bases:
Contract
Where processing is necessary to provide your account and the services you request, including:
- Account creation
- Progress tracking
- Certificates
- Scholarship matching
- AI tutoring features
Consent
Where you choose to receive optional communications, updates or newsletters.
You may withdraw consent at any time.

4. Analytics and Cookies
We use privacy-focused analytics to understand how the platform is used.
We do not use advertising cookies.
We only use:

- Anonymous analytics where possible
5. AI Features
Study Syria provides AI-generated educational explanations and tutoring support.
Where you submit text to these features, that content may be processed by Anthropic to generate responses.
We do not use your submitted learning content to advertise to you.
6. How Long We Keep Data
We retain account data until you delete your account.
When an account is deleted:
- Progress data is deleted
- Notes and bookmarks are deleted
- Quiz results are deleted
- Certificates are deleted
- Account information is deleted
Encrypted backups may remain for up to 30 days before permanent deletion.
7. Sharing Your Data
We do not sell personal data.
We only share data with service providers necessary to operate the platform, including:
- Railway (hosting infrastructure)
- Anthropic (AI tutoring and explanations)
- GitHub (development and infrastructure management)
- Stripe (payment processing, if applicable)
Each provider only receives information necessary to provide its services.
Some providers may process data outside the United Kingdom. Where required, appropriate safeguards are used in accordance with UK GDPR requirements.
8. Children's Privacy
Study Syria is designed to support students, including younger learners.
Minimum Age
Users must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
Users Under 16
Where required by applicable law, users under 16 should obtain parental or guardian permission before creating an account.
Our Approach
For younger users we apply the principles of the UK ICO Children's Code, including:
- Data minimisation
- Privacy by default
- No behavioural advertising
- No profiling for marketing purposes
- Clear and age-appropriate explanations where possible
- Limiting collection to information genuinely required to provide educational services
We do not knowingly collect unnecessary personal information from children.
If we discover that personal information has been collected unlawfully from a child, we will delete it as soon as reasonably practicable.
9. Your Rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete your data
- Restrict processing
- Object to processing
